High Court Throws Out Olympics Injunction Application Against GFA

The High Court in Accra has dismissed an interlocutory injunction application by Accra Great Olympics Club Limited against the Ghana Football Association.

Justice Anthony Yeboah in his ruling on Wednesday at the Human Rights Court 2 said third parties and other stakeholders of the league would suffer if the injunction is upheld.

He also maintained that Olympics could adequately be compensated if the league is allowed to progress.

Olympics wanted the court to place an injunction on the start of the 2017/2018 Ghana Premier League pending the determination of a protest involving two other clubs by the Ghana Football Association’s disciplinary committee.

The ruling means the GFA can now proceed with the 2017/18 league season while they resolve any impending protests by Olympics at their judicial bodies.

Olympics headed to the High Court to place an interlocutory injunction to stop the start of the 2017/18 edition of the Ghana Premier League which was billed to start on the weekend of February 10/11 until its ongoing protests at the GFA were ruled on.
The protests relate to the fielding of unqualified players in a game between Bechem United and Elmina Sharks. That protest was dismissed by the GFA.
If their protests are successful, the team found guilty of fielding the unqualified player (s) will be handed a six-point deduction and will ensure that Olympics escape relegation at their expense.
