Coaches, administrators, and players of some division 2 Clubs have expressed disappointment at the continual delay in the start of the league.
The commencement of the league season was originally scheduled to for the 28th of May 2016, an action that was later postponed to the 4th of June.
However, despite the two postponements, officials of the Regional Football Association are still unable to determine the exact date of the start of the league, an action that has become a main source of worry for players, officials and even fans of the division 2 league.
“The league was supposed to start last month and we had put things in place for that. But we were told that it has been pushed to the first weekend in June, an action that has still not materialized. We don’t really know wat is happening”, Jacob Nettey who is the assistant coach of Accra-based Emmanuel FC mentioned to ghanasoccernews.com.
“When we know it not coming on, then we will know the type of training programs we can take the boys through, even if possible, arrange some friendly matches to keep them sharper. But now we really don’t know what to do as all we get is that a new date will be confirmed soon”, he added.
Other officials, coaches and players who spoke to this website also shared the same frustration adding that it might affect their performance in the coming season.
“Everything has to do with planning and so far we have done our best as a Club to motivate and train our boys to embrace the start of the new season, but unfortunately the commencement date keeps changing. We are worried about it because it has changed the entire training program of the team.”
“It is our hope that the new date will be announced soon for all of us to get some action in the National division 2 league”, Public Relations Officer of Hohoe based NADM SC, Samuel A. Boakye-Buckman mentioned in an interview.
Officials of the Regional Football Association have also explained that the delay in the start of the league has been due to the GFA’s IT department’s notice that not all the registered players have their cards ready.
According to them, though some Clubs and regions have their cards ready, others don’t, and all must be done before the league can finally take off, so as to avoid any unpleasant issues that might lead to protests and court cases.
