Solomon Asante Wins 2017 SWAG Male Footballer Of The Year

on

Ghanaian international Solomon Asante has been voted the 2017 Male Footballer of the Year by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana.

Asante, who had a great season with his Club side TP Mazembe last year winning both the domestic league as well as the continental trophy, i.e. CAF Confederations Cup, was named in the Male footballer of the year category alongside his Black Stars colleagues, Andre Ayew and Daniel Amartey.

Andre Ayew and Amartey, both of whom play in the English Premier League also had a good season with their respective Club’s with Amartey winning the league with his side Leicester City.

But the achievements of Asante in the year 2016 superseded that of his two contenders and it came as no surprise when his name was mentioned as the winner of the award at the large gathering of all who matter in sports in Ghana, during the 42nd SWAG Awards held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra.

Asante who is presently with his club side, Mazembe preparing for their CAF Confederations Cup defense against South Africa’s Supersport United, could not attend the event, thus the award was presented to his adorable wife by former Ghanaian international and assistant coach of the Black Stars, Ibrahim Tanko.
