MTN FA Cup: Kotoko Survive At Tumu: Beat Real 24 Hours FC To Progress

on

Two goals from striker, Obed Owusu aided Kotoko safely to the 16th stage of the FA Cup as the Porcupines defied several oddities in Tumu, Upper West Region, to edge out their determined opponent, Real 24 Hours FC.

Obed Owusu plucked the first goal in the 43rd minute as he beautifully converted a penalty kick after Stephen Nyarko was brutally fouled in the box. The goal was greeted with astonishing celebration by Kotoko fans at the Park who reveled at the sight of seeing the great club in their locality.

The Tumu side didn’t give up the fight. They fought Kotoko courageously and their supporters cheered them on unceasingly.

The joy for Kotoko followers was however massive on the stroke of regulation time when Obed Owusu decently tapped home an excellent supply from Michael Yeboah, who had beaten the offside trap to pick a decent pass from Akwasi Nti.

The ball deflected off the hand of a Real 24 Hours defender at the blind side of the referee before Obed Owusu connected it home to register his and Kotoko’s second goal.

Despite struggling to control the ball on the terribly bad pitch; Kotoko showed grit, power and pace. They had travelled 12 hours by road on Friday to play the game on Saturday. However, they hardly showed any sign of weariness.

Interim head coach, Michael Osei and his assistant, Godwin Ablordey commended the players for their hard work. They also thanked them for making the long trip to Tumu worthwhile.

This is Michael Osei and Godwin Ablordey’s second win since management asked Coach David Duncan to step aside. The team is expected back to Kumasi early Sunday morning.

Kotoko will be in action again on Wednesday when they face Dreams FC at Dawu in the league.
