FIFA WCQ: Thomas Partey Strikes Again As Stars Sink Zimbabwe In Harare

Star man Thomas Teye Partey scored a scintillating free-kick as Ghana recorded a double over Zimbabwe to move top of Group G in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers.

The win sends Ghana to the top of the Group  G table with 9 points – two richer than South Africa who host Ethiopia later this evening.

Arsenal ace Partey scored inside 30 minutes as his ferocious free-kick beat Zimbabwe goalkeeper Shumba Tanunurma. Ghana looked very lively in the opening stages of the game with the likes of Kamal Deen Suleymana, Mohammed Kudus, and Thomas Partey all bringing on their game.

Baba Abdul Rahman was fouled on the edge of the box after meandering his way into the Zimbabwean half.

The free-kick was beautifully slotted home by Partey from 25 yards to give Ghana the lead.

Kamaldeen Suleymana found himself in a good scoring position to make it 2-0 but his effort was kept out by the goalkeeper.

Thomas Partey again found questioned the goalkeeper of Zimbabwe from another free-kick but his effort was neatly dealt with by the defense of the Warriors.

Zimbabwe has their moments but Ghana did well to keep them at bay as the first half ended 1-0 in favor of Ghana.

Back from recess, Coach Milovan Rajevac brought on Daniel Kyereh for Kamaldeen Suleyman.

Mohammed Kudus was denied by the upright on the half-hour mark leaving the Zimbabweans off the hook. The game then became evenly spread as Ghana committed men at the back to stop Zimbabwe from scoring.

Alexander Djiku was forced to withdraw from the game due to injury and was replaced by Celta Vigo man Joseph  Aidoo.

Captain Andre Ayew, Caleb Ekuban, and Samuel Owusu were then brought on for Jordan Ayew, Benjamin Tetteh, and Mohammed Kudus as the game winded down.

The Black Stars held on to win the game 1-0 at the National Stadium in Harare to record a double over the Warriors.

This is Ghana’s away win in the ongoing campaign following the 1-0 loss to South Africa in September.

Ghana will travel to Addis Ababa to face Ethiopia before facing South Africa to wrap up the Group stage.

The Winner of the Group will qualify you for the playoffs for the final five slots last for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
