“Amartey Is A Very Positive Addition To The Team” – C.K. Akonnor

Black Stars head coach C.K. Akonnor is happy with the performance of defender Daniel Amartey in the game against Moroccos, adding that his return is a very positive addition to the entire team.

The Leicester City defender who ended the season with an FA Cup medal was named in the starting lineup of the Black Stars in their 1-0 loss to the Atlas Lions of Morocco in an international friendly played on Tuesday night and played the entire duration of the game showing no signs of a player who has been out of the team for the past three years.

The Stars lost the game 1-0 thanks to an elementary mistake by goalkeeper Razak Abalora who was in the post the entire night.

“Daniel is a disciplined boy. I have known for a while, even before I became the coach of the Black Stars. When I went to Europe, he was injured so I visited him and spoke to him and waited for the moment. He is a very positive addition to the team, he has been away for a long but there was no sign of rustiness from him even though he has been away for a long time”.

He formed a wonderful partnership with Nicholas Opoku in the first half and Alexander Djiku in the second half as was very exciting to watch, commanding the goal area with his colleagues.

He is expected to maintain his position on Saturday when the Black Stars welcome the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire in yet another international friendly at the Cape Coast stadium.
